Dear Brother

It is so long since I have had any letter from you that I despair of ever getting one - so long ago that I can’t remember when, years of waiting, about two years I think since anyone has heard from you. So write please if it is only three words to say that you are alive.

All of our family in this part of the world are still living and reasonably well, so far as I know.

This city where I have made my home has suffered less during the present financial troubles than most others. There is no marked distress here among any class of population and at present don’t appear likely to occur. Our city is still progressing in population and wealth. It’s growth for an eastern city has been remarkable. Within the present city limits when I first came, there was perhaps a population of 2000, now it is more than 40,000. Where now all the main business streets and thoroughfares was then an almost pathless forest through which it was almost impossable for one to find his way.

I have been so far prospered as to secure a home free of debt, worth some $5000 or $6000. I am at present in receipt of the salary in Government employ of about $1500. Don’t neglect to write.

Truly your Brother

George
